How to Prepare for your Photo Session

You have done it, you booked your photo session! How exciting! But… now what?

It is completely normal to feel nervous, it is a scary thing to show up in front of a camera. I’m here to guide you every step of the way through the entire process. Trust me, it is going to be so much fun!

Leading up to your session day

1. Take the day off, if you can.

You have booked this photoshoot to celebrate yourself, I can highly recommend taking the entire day for it. Yes, the session is ‘’only’’ between 2-3 hours, but the excitement beforehand is better to be felt than pushed away by doing other activities. Afterward, you might just want to lean into all the feelings as well. Take it easy, create truly a day for yourself. You won’t regret it!

2. Plan your outfits!

Nothing is worse than running around in panic on the day not knowing what to wear. Try on different things, and see in which outfit you feel the most comfortable and confident. I also have a client wardrobe that you are very welcome to use. Not sure whatsoever? No worries! Just bring along the potential outfits, and we can decide together.

3. Take care of your skin.

Don’t participate in activities that might impact your skin in a significant way. Try not to book your session straight after a holiday in the sun, little marks on your skin are easy to edit out, but intense tan lines, not so much! While also making sure to avoid activities that might bruise your skin.

4. Shaving and waxing

Try not to shave/wax 24 hours before your shoot. You don’t have to shave/wax at all, this is your body, and you decide! If you do like to shave/wax, please make sure to do this two days in advance giving your skin time to heal to avoid cuts and redness.

The day of your session

1. Eat a good meal.

If you have been in front of the camera before, you will know that posing can be a bit of a mini workout! Please make sure that you have a good meal beforehand so you have the energy to really enjoy the experience. Bringing water and snacks is encouraged!

2. Try to wear loose-fitting clothing.

Clothes that fit tightly can form lines on your body which can be difficult to edit out of photographs. This is also the perfect day to not wear a watch and to leave the hair bobble from your wrists.

3. Take some time for yourself.

This might be the time that you really start to feel nervous and excited at the same time! Again, totally normal! Take extra time before the shoot so you can do all the above steps, but also give yourself a moment to sit down, take it in, and…. breathe! You can do this, and I’m already so proud of you.

4. Have fun!

You will see that once you are through the nervousness, it is just a whole lot of fun to have your photo taken! We will have lots of chats, coffee/tea, and trust me, there will be good belly laughter happening once… or twice… or even three times!

After your session:

1. You. Have. Done. It.

You have really done it! You have taken a big moment to celebrate yourself! Through this entire process, you have felt all the feelings, it is very normal after your photoshoot to have a bit of an adrenaline crash. Please take the time after your shoot to recover from this. Have a nap, take a bath, and eat a nutritious meal. Be gentle with yourself.

2. Relax.

Now it’s time to sit back and wait for the photos to arrive in your inbox. Do you find it scary to look at photos of yourself? Again, so normal! And nothing to worry about, I got you! Upon the reveal of your photos, I offer to be there in person or over the phone so that we can look at the photos together. If any feelings arise, we can talk them through together to make it a wonderful experience.
